Co-organisation and tutoring of a Community-engaged Architectural Design Learning course at the KU Leuven Faculty of Architecture (in collaboration with Prof. dr. Burak Pak and drs. Rosie Romero) during the co-testing phase of the Solidary Mobile Housing (SMH) co-creation process.

During this elective, organized as a fully online course due to the COVID-19 situation, using Zoom and Blackboard Collaborate, the four involved students met weekly with the course tutors (course tutors: Prof. Burak Pak and Drs. Aurelie De Smet). Moreover, bi-monthly online meetings were organized with the other SMH partners so that the students could present their results, ask questions, and also get their input and guidance.

In the context of this elective, the KU Leuven students and SMH partners worked on:

  • (1) PoC WP1: preparation of the on-site demonstration
  • (2) PoC WP2.1: further investigation of the adaptability of the SMH Architectural Design
  • (3) PoC WP2.4: preparation of the market exploration
  • (4) PoC WP3: preparation of the next public event.

The outputs of this elective were thus:

  • (1) a (draft) toolbox for the co-investigation of socio-spatial appropriation (image on top)
  • (2) a report about the design research on the adaptability of the SMH Architectural Design
  • (3) a project presentation folder, to be used for the market exploration
  • (4) a preliminary plan and graphic design for the SMH Virtual Exhibition website.
